Cherry Pepper
Cherry Pepper was born and raised in Havana, Cuba where she lived in luxury from her family’s tobacco and sugar cane fields. At the start of the Revolution her family was pushed out of the country and moved to Miami. In Miami she continued to study her love of ballet and dancing. While at a block party she fell in love with Juan Contreras, a musician who traveled the country playing with his band Los Morros. When he was leaving for his next gig in Los Angeles, a week later, he asked Cherry to come with him. She followed him despite her family’s discontent. A month later, Cherry met Mrs. Contreras and the children. Broken hearted Cherry did the only thing she knew would bring her back to life, dancing. In search of a job she roamed into a theatre where she witnessed her first Burlesque show. Cherry knew right then and there this was what she wanted.
